Research Director

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Research Director to work under the direction of PI Michelle Yin, in the School of Education and Social Policy.  The Research Project Director is responsible for managing large grants for a cutting-edge research lab, ensuring the successful execution of projects from inception to completion. As a key team member, the Research Project Director is pivotal in managing client relationships, leading evaluation activities, coordinating data collection efforts, and spearheading data analysis and report writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage implementation evaluation for multiple federal, state, and private funder-funded grants. Responsibilities include but are not limited to implementation evaluation design, measurement development, protocol design and development, IRB preparation and submission, qualitative and quantitative data collection, implementation evaluation report development, and dissemination of findings.
  • Lead data cleaning, data preparation, and analysis in NVivo/Stata/R or other equivalent data analysis tools in economics and social science
  • Under the direction of the PI, manage multiple federal and state grants, with a funding range of $300k-4 million, including managing grant timelines, meeting all deliverable deadlines, and managing staffing and budget of the grants.
  • Under the direction of the PI, manage proposal development for federal, state, and private funders. Responsibilities include but are not limited to tracking funding opportunities that are appropriate for the research team, reviewing RFP/RFP on a regular basis, drafting sections of the proposal, and developing budget and management plan in collaboration with the PI and other team members.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with sponsors, including being responsive to sponsor data submission requests, providing documentation and reports to sponsors in a timeline manner, preparing periodic reports on staffing and budget of the grants.
  • In coordination with the PI, manage a team of 4-8 staff that consists of economists, social scientists, data analysts, and graduate student assistants.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 8-12 years of experience Or PhD degree with 3-5 years experience in implementation science research and large grant management
  • Must have experience with writing and reviewing grants with a funding range of $300k to $5 million dollars.
  • Experience with NVivo/Stata/R

Pay Rate:

Target hiring range for this position will be between $88,000-$120,000 per year.  Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Lead Economist

Northwestern University School of Education and Social Policy invites applications for a lead economist. Applicants also should have strong analytic curiosity and creativity; the ability to operate both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment; and excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. As a lead economist/research analyst, you will lead research proposals and studies in the field of social and economic policy, provide analysis to help develop and evaluate interventions and policy options, and leads data management and analysis team involved in querying, extracting, managing and analyzing multiple, complex datasets ensuring data integrity, quality, and timeliness of results.

Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in economics in an accredited college; OR appropriate combination of education and experience
• Passion for using big data to solve social and economic policy issues
• Strong writing skills, including conceptualizing, organizing, drafting, and managing written deliverables such as reports, memos, PowerPoint presentations, or other client-facing materials
• Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

Assistant Professor of Instruction (Non-Tenure Track)

Research Assistant

The Master of Science in Social and Economic Policy program is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented Research Assistant to aid a grant from the US Department of Education to assess a Virginia intervention designed to end the practice of paying less than the minimum wage to people with disabilities.

The Real Pay for Real Jobs, an EPIC (Education, Partnerships, provisions of Individualized Services, and Capacity Building) Model Project, is an effort by the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services to eliminate the longstanding but legal practice of paying a subminimum wage and support employment and economic independence for Virginians with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Interview program participants and collect survey data
  • Assist in writing research reports
  • Collaborate with students, faculty members, research team, and department

Qualifications:

  • Current PhD or MA/MS degree in a social science related field such as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, public policy or others
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Prior research experience is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Stata or R

Pay Rate:

$20/hour (10-15 hours per week)
