Indigenous Summer Research Program

INDIGENOUS SUMMER
RESEARCH PROGRAM

The Indigenous Summer Research Program (ISRP) is an 8-week summer residential internship with The Research for Indigenous Social Action and Equity Center (RISE) at Northwestern University. At RISE, we aim to improve the understanding and treatment of Indigenous Peoples throughout society. ISRP offers the opportunity to join our mission at RISE to improve the lives of millions of Indigenous people through research. We focus on community building and provide mentorship by Indigenous scholars. Our program is open to students who are 18 or older, especially those early in their studies who may not have access to other research opportunities. The summer program runs from June 22nd to August 14th, 2026. Students who join the ISRP program will receive a stipend of $2,800 in addition to all lodging, travel, and research materials paid.

The application for the 2026 ISRP internship can be accessed here. The application will be open until January 1st, 2026.

In the application we will ask you to respond to a few questions (100-300 word limits) about your personal background, research experience, and why you think you might want to be a part of ISRP 2025. We will also ask you to submit unofficial transcripts, one reference (name & email), and a writing sample. We will reach out to ask your reference about your work or educational experiences and your motivation in applying for this program.
