Northwestern IT Research Computing Services
• 3rd-5th year PhD students (for 2019-2020) who are done with full-time classes
• Comfortable using and teaching R or Python
• Any department or school
• Either Evanston or Chicago campus, but able to work in Evanston at least 4 hours a week
• Available to work 10-15 hours a week
Data Science Consultants work with our staff data science experts to help Northwestern researchers with the technical and computational challenges in their research. They hold consultation hours to answer questions from students, postdocs, and faculty about data analysis, writing computer scripts, visualizing and presenting data, research reproducibility and replicability, and effectively using computational resources. They work on short projects for researchers requiring expertise in coding or analysis skills. They design and teach workshops on data science topics in R, Python, and other languages/programs. You’ll improve your teaching, collaboration, and communication skills, get experience addressing a range of data and programming challenges, and learn new data science approaches and tools.
Positions are funded as TGS Graduate Assistantships. The positions provide an opportunity for students in the humanities and social sciences for a 6th year of funding, but students from all fields are encouraged to apply.
