Spring 2019 Meeting…
Correct Art History: A Feminist Response
Bridging community practice and academic scholarship, Dr. Amy Stanley, Associate Professor of History (NU) who specializes in Modern Japan and Gender Studies, will be in conversation with Michelle Hartney, a Chicago-based artist whose work addresses issues involving women’s health and social justice. Their collaboration on this project, in response to a recent exhibit at The Art Institute of Chicago on Japanese women, provides a space to discuss how women are represented in art and history, the role and development of feminist politics in one’s research/art, and the creation of bridges between women in academia and women in public-facing practice.
This event is generously sponsored by the Department of History and the Chabraja Center for Historical Studies at Northwestern.
