The NU Public Humanities Colloquium will be discussing non-academic/”alt-ac” work and job searching on Thursday, November 17th from 5-6:30 at the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities. We’ll hear from Margaret Lebron and Justin Zullo about their experiences in the intensive Humanities Without Walls “Alternative Academy Career Summer Workshop for Pre-Doctoral Students in the Humanities.” We’ll also hear from past HWW Workshop participants and other Pub Hum members, and Mearah Quinn-Brauner will offer a few practical tips for the non-ac job search. Mearah holds a PhD in English from UPenn and was recently appointed the Associate Director of Graduate and Postdoctoral Professional Development in TGS, after two years of working with graduate students through Northwestern Career Advancement.
This meeting will also be a good chance for new participants to learn about the colloquium and for us to begin to discuss other plans for the year, particularly as we come together post-election and consider what it could mean to do Humanities work – in any context – in the Trump era.
There will be snacks. Please join us!
