What happens if you don’t comply with security standards?
Failing to meet PCI DSS requirements can have negative consequences for customers, you, your merchant location, and the entire University. Non-compliance can lead to consequences including security breaches, in which cardholder data are stolen and possibly later fraudulently used.
Non-compliance, including a security breach, impacts the merchant location and University in many ways:
- Financial loss (investigation and legal fees, fines, remediation costs, increased transaction fees)
- Loss of time (formal investigations and audits)
- Loss of privilege to accept payment card transactions
- Damage to the University’s reputation and customer confidence
Please contact treasury_operations@northwestern.edu at any time with questions or concerns.
Consequences may extend beyond your merchant location to the entire University.
