IN THE ROOM

Auditioning for musicals: Prepare either one song, or two contrasting songs. You will have TWO minutes total to perform your pieces. If you go over, you may be cut off, so please plan accordingly.

Auditioning for plays: Prepare either one monologue or two contrasting monologues. You will have a total of THREE minutes to perform your pieces. If you go over, you may be cut off, so please plan accordingly.

Steps for the Audition

  1.  If you’re auditioning for a musical, take a moment to set up your music. If you have a track, set that up, or ask to test the level of the speaker in the room. If you have sheet music, check-in with the accompanist to set the tempo and talk about cue for starting and any other important things in your music.
  2. Head to the center of the room and introduce yourself. Let the people watching know your name, and what you’re performing. Including the title of the piece, the show title, and composers, lyricists, or writers can be helpful, but for a song, the most important part is the song title, and for a monologue the most important part is the play title and the character name.
  3. Do your song(s) or monologue(s)
  4. Thank the people in the room for their time
  5. Head out, and enjoy your day!

Information

What is a primary process? A primary process is the format that most StuCo shows follow. There are usually about five weeks of rehearsal with rehearsals 4-6 days a week depending on the needs of the show. They are typically fully staged and rehearsed shows.

What is a secondary process? A secondary process is typically a staged reading, consisting of 15-20 hours of rehearsal, and does not result in a fully realized production. The length of the rehearsal process for a secondary process will vary based on the needs of the script and the availability of actors.

You may be cast in both a primary and a secondary process in one quarter. You may never be cast in two primary processes in one quarter. You can indicate on the preference form whether or not you would like to be cast in both a primary and a secondary. If you are cast in a primary process, and you wish to no longer be considered for a secondary process, you can indicate that on the pref form.
