Audition Guidelines

These guidelines are only applicable to STUCO General Auditions. You can find more information about the Wirtz Center’s General Auditions on their website.

Auditioning for musicals:

You will have THREE MINUTES, for musicals. Prepare either one song, or two contrasting songs. You will have three minutes total to perform your pieces. While no one will cut you off, please plan so that you are being considerate of everyone’s time.

Auditioning for plays:

You will have THREE MINUTES for plays. Prepare either one monologue or two contrasting monologues. You will have a total of three minutes to perform your pieces.  While no one will cut you off, please plan so that you are being considerate of everyone’s time.

Steps for the Audition:

  1.  If you’re auditioning for a musical, take a moment to set up your music. If you have a track, set that up, or ask to test the level of the speaker in the room. If you have sheet music, check-in with the accompanist to set the tempo and talk about cue for starting and any other important things in your music.

  2. Head to the center of the room and introduce yourself. Let the people watching know your name, and what you’re performing. Including the title of the piece, the show title, and composers, lyricists, or writers can be helpful, but for a song, the most important part is the song title, and for a monologue the most important part is the play title and the character name.

  3. Do your song(s) or monologue(s)

  4. Thank the people in the room for their time

  5. Head out, and enjoy your day!
