Our Story

The Northwestern Sports Analytics Group (NSAG) is a student group committed to strategic data analysis and outside-the-box thinking in the world of sports. Our organization serves as an outlet for Northwestern University students interested in sports analytics, attracting those who are creative, have a dedicated passion for sports statistics, and use analytical thinking to solve problems. We offer our members the ability to bridge the gap between sports and data analytics by fostering the education and guidance necessary to produce content that provides valuable insight into all facets of sports (statistical analysis, business, roster management, fantasy, in-game strategy, etc.).

NSAG came to fruition when a group of four Northwestern sports fanatics got together to discover how to use analytics to improve sports performance and better understand the games they were so passionate about.

Since our establishment in the Spring of 2017, we have written dozens of original articles published on this website and worked on projects for Sportlytix, a professional sports analytics company. Moreover, we have hosted panel discussions with speakers from notable publications (including FiveThirtyEight, FanGraphs, Baseball Prospectus, and Medium), guest speakers from teams (including the Golden State Warriors, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants), and career events with companies who do great work in the area of sports analytics (including IBM and Blinkfire Analytics).

Through our professional network, we regularly receive exclusive jobs and internships postings from front offices, companies, and publications, including the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, Washington Nationals, Oklahoma City Thunder, Wall Street Journal, Pro Scout School for NBA Summer League, Big League Advance, 84.51° of Kroger, and many more.

We have accomplished a great deal as a club and we are nothing but excited to see where we go from here.
