Past Programs: 2022 Recap

In the summer of 2022, high school students, Ahmed Abukar, Warda Aftab, and Andrew Green, from the Chicago Math and Science Academy participated in the first-ever year of NURPH. During the program, they engaged in cutting-edge materials science research under the guidance of graduate student mentors. Alongside their research, the students learned about foundational materials science concepts, practiced scientific communication and data analysis, and attended panels to prepare for STEM college and career pathways. They also had the opportunity to tour Argonne National Laboratory to learn about the scientific research conducted in the Chicago area. At the end of the program, the students presented their efforts and achievements in a poster session, attended by colleagues, faculty, and students from the NU Materials Science and Engineering department, and their families.
