Mara Ulloa will be attending the International Society for Research on Internet Interventions (ISRII) in Limerick, Ireland to present her ongoing research on the design of patient-facing machine learning (ML).

– Mara Ulloa will be beginning an ongoing collaboration on user experience (UX) initiatives with The National Science Foundation’s (NSF) National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado.

– Stefany Cruz published her research in JMIR mHealth and uHealth on Perceptions of Wearable Health Tools Post the Covid-19 Emergency in Low-Income Latin Communities: Qualitative Study. Her research was highlighted by Northwestern Engineering in a published interview.

April 2024

– Stefany Cruz presented her research on designing equitable wearables at the ACM International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems (ASPLOS) in San Diego, California.

– Connie Chau’s paper titled “Envisioning the Future of Burnout Support: Understanding Frontline Workers’ Experience in Nonprofit Gender-Based Violence Organizations” was conditionally accepted to the ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW) 2024.

– Mara Ulloa & Monisola Jayeoba attended the Computing Research Association (CRA) Grad Cohort Workshop for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Leadership Skills (IDEALS) in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Connie Chau passed the first of two Communications PhD Qualifying Exams.

January 2024

– Connie Chau created and presented training on technology-facilitated abuse to more than 74 local service providers of domestic violence as part of community work in Chicago.

– The NU-PATH Lab was featured in Northwestern University’s Winter 2024 issue of the Northwestern Magazine for CASMI: Co-designing Patient-Facing Machine Learning for Prenatal Stress Reduction.

Connie Chau & Mara Ulloa gave a talk on their participation in the Graduate Engagement Opportunity (GEO) community practicum to the Northwestern CS+X department; Connie and Mara attended the Gender and Intersectional Bias in Artificial Intelligence conference in Chicago, IL.

October 2023

Mara Ulloa served as a JEDI Ambassador at UbiComp/ISWC conference in Cancún,  Mexico; Stefany Cruz presented at UbiComp / ISWC Doctoral Colloquium. Connie attended 2 workshops at CSCW on community-collaborative approaches to research in HCI (with Stefany) & trauma-informed online spaces, respectively. Mara attended the CSCW workshop on supporting user engagement in testing, auditing, and contesting AI.
