Executive Committee Positions

Co-Chair

The co-chairs are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the NUPA. The co-chairs facilitate and preside over all Executive Committee and NUPA-wide meetings, manage the information resources of NUPA, maintain and extend the contact information network of NUPA, oversee the membership lists of NUPA, maintain the archives and privacy policy of NUPA, coordinate the production of the annual report of NUPA activities and accomplishments, and raise money to support NUPA. One co-chair is elected to represent each domestic Northwestern campus (Chicago and Evanston).

Treasurer

The treasurer is responsible to record the income and disbursement of all funds and properties at the disposal of NUPA. The treasurer handles all financial transactions and submits a yearly budget along with an annual expense report to the Executive Committee. 

Administrative Coordinator

The Administrative Coordinator is responsible for the public relations and committee coordination between Executive Members and sub-committees. The Administrative Coordinator distributes the annual report, schedules Executive Committee meetings and NUPA-wide meetings, communicates NUPA’s internal decisions to the Members, coordinates with Executive
Committee members and sub-committee members, records the minutes of NUPA meetings, maintains Northwestern University email accounts, listservs, and Slack Channel.

Internal Communications Coordinator

(Previously the Web Design Coordinator)

The Internal Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing, maintaining and timely updating of NUPA’s website. The Internal Communications Coordinator maintains the NUPA website in accordance with NUIT regulations, coordinates with NUIT staff for concerns related to the web space at university server, maintains NUPA website for regular traffic, updates various events and information approved by Executive Committee on the website, and maintains an archive of publicly available meeting minutes on the website.

External Communications Coordinator

(Previously the Social Media Coordinator)

The External Communications Coordinator is responsible for maintaining NUPA social media presence on the websites including but not limited to LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter in accordance with NU regulations. The External Communications Coordinator communicates NUPA events on social media websites, responds in a timely manner to the visitors’ queries on these social media profiles or coordinates with the member of the Executive Committee to get appropriate answer for the queries, oversees the NUPA Eventbrite page, and coordinates and edits the email newsletter.

Sub-committee Chairs

The chair of each sub-committee is responsible for day-to-day operations of the sub-committee. The chair manages the affairs of the sub-committee in accordance with the strategic direction prescribed by the Executive Committee. The chair is responsible for appointing and designating task/duties to other sub-committee members for execution of the planned events. Each sub-committee chair serves as a voting member of the NUPA Executive Committee.

Social Sub-committee

The mission of the NUPA Social Sub-Committee is to foster a sense of community among NUPA members and their families across the university and to support the wellbeing of NUPA members during their postdoctoral appointments This is achieved through a variety of means, including but not limited to, regular pub night/happy hour gatherings, facilitation of postdoc participation in sporting activities, and planning events and curating resources to support postdoctoral wellbeing.

Professional Development Sub-committee

The mission of the NUPA Professional Development Sub-committee is to create resources for NUPA members to develop skills beyond the technical focus of their research that will be necessary for successful future careers. This is achieved through a variety of means, including but not limited to, the planning and facilitating of career events, workshops, and seminars.
