Feb 15 2023: NSAIL’s V.S. Subrahmanian gave a keynote at the workshop on “The Irresponsibility of a Narrow Debate on Military AI” at the first global Summit on Responsible Artificial Intelligence in the Military Domain, REAIM 2023, organized by the Government of Netherlands.
Oct 4 2022: NSAIL Head V.S. Subrahmanian gave an invited talk on AI & Cybersecurity to DHS’s Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Community of Interest group.

Sep 12 2022: The paper “A New Dynamically Changing Attack on Review Fraud Systems and a Dynamically Changing Ensemble Defense” by former NSAIL postdoc Youzhi Zhang, current NSAIL lab member Sayak Chakrabarty, former student Rui Liu, collaborator Andrea Pugliese, and NSAIL head V.S. Subrahmanian won the best paper award at the 20th IEEE International Conference on Dependable, Autonomic & Secure Computing (DASC 2022)
The paper shows how companies that generate fake product reviews might operate in the future and how electronic marketplaces might combat such malicious operators.
Sep 12 2022: The paper “Mitigating Adversarial Gray-Box Attacks Against Phishing Detectors” by Giovanni Apruzzese of the University of Liechtenstein and NSAIL Lab head V.S. Subrahmanian was accepted by IEEE Transactions on Dependable & Secure Computing. The paper studies how malicious hackers will seek to evade methods to detect phishing attacks in the future.
Aug 24 2022: NSAIL was honored to host Mr. S. Ramadorai, former CEO of Tata Consultancy Services (India’s largest IT firm) and former Chairman of the Bombay Stock Exchange:
Aug 2022: The paper “POLLY: A Multimodal Cross-Cultural Context-Sensitive Framework to Predict Political Lying from Videos” by Chongyang Bai, Maksim Bolonkin, Viney Regunath and V.S. Subrahmanian was accepted for publication in: Proc. 24th ACM International Conference on Multimodal Interaction, Bengaluru, Nov. 2022. The paper tries to predict whether politicians are lying or not by analyzing facial video and previously published relevant news articles. Chongyang, Maks and Viney are all former students of V.S. Subrahmanian.
