Alicia V. Nuñez is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Northwestern University. Her thesis is titled, “Shadow Kids: The Child in Central American Migrant Narratives” which looks to understand the literal and figurative roles childhood plays in discourses surrounding Central American migration. Additionally, Alicia examines the queer racialized child migrant that not only transgresses borders, but also breaks with normative conceptions of gender and sexuality. Prior to her graduate studies at Northwestern, Alicia’s research was dedicated to Latinx youth and counterculture movements in Los Angeles and the US Southwest. With NPEP, Alicia co-taught a course at Cook County Department of Corrections and is now excited to contribute to NPEP as a member of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee.
