NPEP is currently open to all incarcerated men at Stateville Correctional Center and all incarcerated women at Logan Correctional Center who have either earned a high school diploma or passed the GED, with the exception of those subject to IDOC restrictions. Students accepted into NPEP are transferred to Stateville Correctional Center, where all of the coursework takes place.
Students are accepted into NPEP by an Admissions Committee made up of Northwestern administrators, faculty, and graduate students. The admissions process is rigorous and selective, with applications to NPEP including a personal statement, textual analysis, and in-person interviews. NPEP currently serves 2 cohorts of 42 students.
