Anne Zald is Northwestern’s Social Science Data Librarian (and also our Government Information Librarian). She helps both faculty and students find sources for their social science research and teaching. Today Anne has selected one resource to share.
ICPSR is a repository for research datasets in the social and behavioral sciences, hosted at the University of Michigan. Founded in 1962, ICPSR has been cited in over 84,000 research publications and curated more than 11,000 studies. For those interested in teaching data, ICPSR provides data-driven learning guides to help teach social science data concepts.
ICPSR has two upcoming opportunities for students: the 2020 Research Paper Competition and the Summer Program. Last year, Arnold Johnsen, a Northwestern statistics major, won first place for his paper. Currently, ICPSR is accepting applications for their 2020 competition. Awards are $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place and publication of your work. The deadline is midnight Pacific Standard Time January 31, 2020. Follow this link to learn more.
ICPSR’s Summer Program is an invaluable opportunity to learn about quantitative and qualitative research methods. The Summer Program’s 4- and 8-week sessions provide excellent training and networking opportunities. Scholarships are available.
