Sunday Cider

Sunday Cider has been an Elder tradition for a decade and is now a staple of North Area community-building. It’s a great way to warm up, literally with a cup of hot cider and figuratively with some mingling with area neighbors. Faculty-in-Residence Elizabeth and Jason work with Resident Assistants to serve cider and donuts, which are often accompanied by a performance or outreach from a student group.

Welcome Back Breakfast

North Area Council loves to start the quarter off with a “Welcome Back Breakfast” to nourish your stomachs and minds to prepare for the busy quarter ahead —draws crowds for its big spreads of food, casual conversation, and stress relief. Keep an eye on the North Area newsletter for details about what’s on tap!

Digital Detox

Digital Detox

The North Area leadership team likes to encourage residents to take an occasional break from screens and do something with their hands while socializing with neighbors. From baking and decorating holiday cookies in the Faculty-in-Residence apartment to a painting class organized by Resident Directors and Resident Assistants, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to revisit an old hobby or try out a new skill. Have an idea for a good digital detox activity? Let an area team member know!

Write Night

Faculty-in-Residence Elizabeth, who happens to be Director of the Cook Family Writing Program, organizes Write Night for North Area residents each quarter. Along with brain food, there are peer consultants from the Writing Place and librarians from to help attendees with research projects and term papers. It’s a great way to be feed off the energy of everyone working while taking time to chat, ask questions, and share ideas.
