Development of the NLaw Campus Art Walk

The NLaw Campus Art Walk was generously funded through a DEI Innovation grant from the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Spring of 2024. The content of the tour was generated during Professor Peter DiCola’s Fall 2023 Law and Creative Industries course. To develop the format of the tour, project leader Sydney Matrisciano consulted with members of the Social Justice Tours Committee and curators at the Block Museum of Art. The route went through nine iterations based on feedback from faculty, staff, and alumni who patiently beta-tested each version. Many different pieces of art were considered by the community, as well as a variety of accessibility needs and interests. Additionally, each student organization chose representative artworks through dialogue and voting within their membership bodies.

Once the route was finalized, scripts were drafted in consultation with the Office of DEI, the Pritzker Legal Research Center, and a variety of staff, student, and artist stakeholders. Forty narrators took part in the recording of the tour, and the NLaw marketing team played an integral role in developing the final project that you see today.
