The Early Years: Map of Law School Locations

In Northwestern University School of Law: A Short History, James A. Rahl and Kurt Schwerin listed the eight locations of the Law School before its 1926 relocation to 375 E. Chicago Avenue. Many of these locations remained within the vicinity of Chicago’s downtown courthouse.

The process of mapping these historical addresses and intersections involved the careful assessment of street numbering changes that occurred in Chicago in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Many thanks to Matt Rutherford of the Newberry Library for his invaluable help with interpreting address change documents and converting historic addresses.
