It is oriented toward vice presidents for research, provosts, deans, department heads, journal editors, publishers, funding agencies, research integrity officers, faculty researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and students.
We invite you to join this critical dialogue to shape the future of research integrity and strengthen the research enterprise for generations to come.
In lieu of poster submissions the NCRI is soliciting essays in response to one of the three prompts below.
NCRI Conference Essay Submission
Registered NCRI conference attendees are invited to contribute their thoughts on the theme "Shaping the Culture of Research Integrity Together" by submitting an essay in response to one of the four prompts described in the instructions below. If you have questions, please contact us at researchintegrity@northwestern.edu
Essay Prompts
1. If you had an opportunity to radically change one aspect of research culture (from the vantage point of institutions, funding, or publishing), what would it be and how? What barriers would you remove? What incentives would you employ?
2. Analyze the key enablers and indicators of research integrity within the academic community. Discuss how these factors contribute to maintaining high standards of research conduct and the challenges faced in ensuring integrity. Consider the roles of institutions, funding bodies, publishers and individual researchers in promoting and upholding research integrity.
3. Evaluate whether and how inclusive research publishing, also known as ‘sound science’ publishing, can transform research culture and promote research integrity. Discuss the potential benefits and challenges of this approach, and consider the roles of various stakeholders, including researchers, institutions, publishers, and policymakers, in fostering an inclusive and ethical research environment.
4. Describe the ideal funding opportunity that would allow you to do your research in a way that you could feel confident about the integrity of the data and results. How does this differ from what you feel you are currently able to do?
Format Requirements
2. Please use no smaller than 10 point font, one-inch margins, and a standard editable file format (e.g., Microsoft Word); final submissions may be reformatted for consistency.
3. Submissions should be no more than 500 words and 3 pages, including all figures, tables, and references.
4. Please follow appropriate scholarly practices for co-authorship and citation, including disclosure of the use of any generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
5. Final submissions will be published as an electronic compendium and available on the conference website.
