The Jerusalem Youth Chorus is a choral and dialogue program for Israeli and Palestinian youth. Their mission is to provide a space for young people from East and West Jerusalem to grow together in song and dialogue. Through the co-creation of music and the sharing of stories, the chorus empowers youth in Jerusalem with the responsibility to speak and sing their truths, as they become leaders in their communities and inspire singers and listeners around the world to work for peace, justice, inclusion, and equality. The Jerusalem Youth Chorus is unique in its combination of music and dialogue programming, providing a transformative experience to create friendship and understanding on an individual and collective level across lines of religion, nationality, language, and culture.
The Jerusalem Youth Chorus has been featured for its innovative musicianship and integrity of purpose and process from the Late Show with Stephen Colbert and the New York Times to Galgalatz, Scene Arabia, and more than 100 other news sources. They have given concerts and workshops in Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Switzerland, and have performed at venues as celebrated as the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and the United Nations in Geneva.
Musically, the Jerusalem Youth Chorus seeks to reflect the values of equality and inclusiveness upon which they are based, truly making manifest the concept of beauty in diversity. As their members come often from vastly different musical traditions, their repertoire and musical style is influenced by both East and West. As such, the choir seeks to innovate and challenge boundaries musically as they do in their non-musical elements of the program
USA TOUR 2023 – CHICAGO & WASHINGTON, DC
For the Jerusalem Youth Chorus’s 10th international tour, they are returning to the United States to conduct performances, workshops, dialogues, music video collaborations, and more. They will be performing at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI, American University in Washington, DC and the University of Maryland, and are organizing additional events with the Aspen Institute, US Institute of Peace, Meridian International, the Jerusalem Foundation, and other significant partners. Between October 22 and November 3, 2023, the choir will visit Chicago and Washington, DC to spread harmony and equip communities across both cities with tools to build better bridges. Their concert performances will be accompanied by workshops to help the community learn a different way of grappling with shared challenges. During their 2015 USA Tour, the Jerusalem Youth Chorus had the incredible privilege to perform with the Chicago Children’s Choir. They have been trying to get the two choirs back together ever since.
