MSL Students Represent Their Cultural Backgrounds at Global Village 2020

Global Village, widely known throughout the Northwestern Law School Community as one of the largest and most popular events in the spring, is a celebration of the international community represented throughout the Law School. Last month, Master of Science in Law (MSL) students participated in record numbers to showcase their unique cultures and heritages.

MSL students represented their diverse backgrounds by preparing and sharing food from their countries of origin. They dressed in traditional garb and performed cultural dances and music.  A wide variety of countries and cultures were represented.

The MSL program brings together students from a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds; their diverse perspectives enhance the learning experience for everyone in the program.  Global Village is a wonderful way to celebrate the diversity of our students and of the law school in general.

Mical Tesfazghi (MSL’20), shared food and dressed in traditional garb from Eritrea. Mical shared a combination of Injera, Awaze Tibs, Tibsi lega, Shiro, Miser, Sega Sambusa, Tsom Sambusa and Alicha.

Chantel Stennis (MSL’20), Amanda Burke (MSL’20), and Alexis Gwynn (MSL’20) shared Jamaican food with the community including: Jerk Chicken Wings, Plantains, Buns, Ting, Ginger Beer and Kola Champagne.

Our Canadian students, Jillian Crich (MSL’20), Amanda Vaughn (MSL’20), Joe Parrish (MSL’20), Emily Rhiel (MSL’20) and Eric DeChant (MSL’20) shared poutine with their peers.

To close the evening, a group of MSL students including: Isabel John (MSL’20), Amie Patel (MSL’20), Radhika Raturi (MSL’20), Emily Rhiel (MSL’20), Andrea Solis (MSL’20), Keerti Tadimeti (MSL’20), Amanda Vaughn (MSL’20), and Merin Thomas (MSL’20), performed a traditional Indian dance.
