  1. What projects are you working on at MSA this summer?
Overseeing the Black House renovation/relocation to the temporary location. Hiring a new Assistant Director. Preparing for MSA focus groups that will run this academic year. Reviewing the previous academic year through data, and utilizing said data to provide a vision and direction for the MSA team for this upcoming year.
  2. What can students expect to see new at MSA in the fall?
A new Assistant Director, new Graduate Assistants, the temporary location of the Black House, and some new programs and new ways of operating.
  3. What has been taking up your free time over the summer?
I am a part of a community garden and I try to spend much of my free time there. I’m growing strawberries, basil, Brussel sprouts, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, mint, sage, lavender and I have a passion fruit tree. In addition to gardening I am reading a lot this summer. I just finished “An American Marriage” by Tayari Jones. Now, I am reading “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants” by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Finally, free time in the summer is spent near the lake, going to festivals, and spending time with my family and friends.
  4. What has been your favorite part of the summer so far?
I went on a family cruise to celebrate mi suegra’s 70th birthday. I was surrounded by our family and some of her best friends. We had a wonderful time!
  5. What are you most looking forward to for the school year to come?
I’m looking forward to welcoming the incoming class and to reconnecting with returning students. While summer is nice, I enjoy the students’ laughter and moments of joy in MSA spaces. I’m looking forward to our Office Assistants returning and hiring some new student staff. I am also looking forward to the many events and programs hosted by MSA.
