Professional background
I’m currently a professor of Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics in Northwestern University’s McCormick School of Engineering and co-director of NICO, the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems. I also have a courtesy appointment as a professor of Physics and Astronomy in Northwestern’s Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences. I have a B.S. in Applied Physics from Caltech, a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell University, and I was an NSF Math Sciences postdoctoral fellow at MIT. In the past I’ve been honored to be selected as a Fulbright scholar and a James S. McDonnell Foundation scholar.
Experience
In addition to the fantastic academic experiences I’ve had at Caltech, Cornell, MIT, and Northwestern, I’ve also been extremely fortunate to work and study with other amazing groups. These include MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory, the LIGO Project, the US Antarctic Program, and Bolivia’s Fundación Patiño.
Other interests
Outside of science, I enjoy learning languages, hiking, and (since the start of the pandemic) playing ukulele.
