Olumide received his Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology from the University of Ibadan in 2019 and a joint Master of Science in Quaternary, Prehistory, and Bioarchaeology from the Natural History Museum of Paris and Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Spain, in 2023. He is currently a PhD student in Archaeology with a focus on zooarchaeology at the University of Colorado, Boulder. As an Africanist zooarchaeologist, his research explores the intricate interactions between human societies and their animal environments in the past. He is particularly interested in uncovering the sociopolitical, cultural, dietary, and symbolic roles of animals in pre-colonial West African societies. While he has previously worked in Azerbaijan and Central Nigeria, he is currently collaborating with the Material History Laboratory to investigate the roles of horses in Ede-Ile, a military frontier of the Old Oyo Empire in southwest Nigeria.
