Institution: University of Toronto
Moses Akogun is a doctoral student at the University of Toronto and a visiting scholar at Trent Environmental Archaeology Lab (TEAL), Trent University, Canada. His research uses zooarchaeological methods and stable isotope analysis to investigate human-animal-environment interactions over the past 30,000 years. He is generally interested in two regions, Mongolia and West Africa. In West Africa, his research focuses on the patterns and timing of the introduction of domesticates, how these transformed early Western African communities, and how animals adapted to the unique environment in this part of the world. Moses is a member of Material History Lab’s Animalia in the History of the Oyo Empire research team. He is collaborating on studying animal management practices, foodways, and regional movement of animals, and the implications for social stratification within the Oyo Empire, ca. 1570-1840.
