Dr. Ezekiel Mtetwa received PhD in African Archaeology at Uppsala University. He is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History. An archaeometry archaeologist by training, he specializes in studying metallurgy, ceramics, and beads in Southern Africa. His research focuses on advancing archaeometric methodologies to uncover the technological and cultural narratives embedded in ancient materials. Ezekiel’s work delves into the intricacies of ancient iron production, ceramic craftsmanship, and bead manufacturing, shedding light on Africa’s complex technological history and trade networks.
His research extends to collaborations with prominent Chicago-area archaeology institutions, including ongoing or pending projects in the Material History Lab at Northwestern University. These collaborations foster cross-disciplinary dialogues that bridge the gap between archaeology, history, and the natural sciences, promoting a comprehensive understanding of Africa’s material heritage.
