Outreach

The Material History Lab provides digital and physical platforms for the public to interact with objects in ways that elevate the understanding of the past and the present. We offer programs that share the results of our work with members of the public in the US and globally. We are committed to working with K-12 teachers in the Chicago Metropolitan Area and elsewhere to integrate the lab resources and research findings into the African Studies, Social Studies, history, and Sciences curriculum. We are also committed to international outreach, especially in working collaboratively with the knowledge communities and institutions where we conduct historical, archaeological, and ethnographic research. For example, we are building on prior work with the Nigerian National Park Service and Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments while also opening new areas of collaboration with the Ede and Osogbo communities in Nigeria through the paramount rulers of the respective towns.
