Gention Impact is a free mobile game released in late September of 2020. And in less than six months “mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower reported that “Genshin Impact” generated approximately $393 million within two months of its September 28 launch and it now makes more than $6 million per day” (source). Once downloaded it’s clear why the game has had such success, with the adventure game set in a massive endless open world with beautiful visuals.

Gention Impact is published by MiHoYo Limited, a Chinese developer. It’s a RPG (role-playing game) and is free to play. As said by Hersko “Players embark on adventures in a fantasy world where they can fight monsters, scale towering mountains and buildings, glide across the countryside, and loot just about everything that isn’t bolted to the ground”. With your sibling you begin in Teyvat which is thriving in elemental energy, when a god separates you from each other and strips you from your prowers. You then come to realize the world you’re in has changed and begin your adventure in search of your sibling amongst the seven elemental gods.

That’s when you meet Paimon who is your guide while discovering Teyvat through swimming across rivers, climbing mountains and seeking the seven gods of each element.

• Mechanics

After gathering the seven elements from the gods players are able to use them as combat systems together. Weather it be “Pyro (fire), Geo (earth), Dendro (nature), Cryo (ice), Electro (lightning), Anemo (wind), and Hydro (water)” and “Vision wielders have the power to turn this to their advantage” (source). Vision wielders are those who have been recognized by their god and serves as proof of that, the players mastery of orenting elements with each other during battles and exploration determines their battle skills. Players can also buy or get Primogems through quests, chests, finishing daily commissions and other methods. Primogems can be used to buy Acquaint Fate or Intertwined Fate in Paimon’s bargains or refill original Resin which is the energy/stamina.

• Systems 

Something special about Gention Impact is the ability to swap between characters on your team seamlessly and use them throughout the adventure and in battle. Throughout the game there are 23 playable characters including the default traveler you start with that you named. The characters you meet will each have a story and their own skills witch could make up a powerful team. these strengths differ between characters with factors such as health level, basic or stronger attack, elemental skill and burst. Character and adventure experience gets better as you play.

• Gameplay

Lastly even though the game is free to play and players don’t need to spend money to access a huge part of games’s content it remains a huge financial success. What sets Genshin Impact apart from other mobile games is the huge depth of the game as opposed to others which are low budget and more of a time passing game. Additionally the visuals of the game are beautiful and along with it plays soothing soundtracks and it come as no surprise that “as part of its annual awards, Google Play announced that MiHoYo’s Genshin Impact walked away with the title of Best Game of 2020” (source).
