Project 1 – Cinemagraph – Mariam Alkhulaifi

While working on this piece the main themes were to make it have a creepy element but also a magical element to it too. One of the more magical elements include the galaxy coming out of the portal. While something more creepy would include the red staring eyes of the stuffed toy panda. What’s happening can be interpreted and different ways. The girl could be being abducted, being watched or maybe she’s watching them?

I wanted to incorporate different skills that we have learned over the past couple of weeks such as using different textures, which I added on the bed frame. Something else that I focused on was that the assets are used blended in with the picture I had, which was a struggle with some assets such as the light fixtures at the opposite side of the portal. Another point that really troubled me was the blue galaxy coming out of the portal, the asset that I was using which was perfect for what I wanted seemed impossible to loop. I only found out that I couldn’t loop it after I had worked on it for a long time. looking forward I would make sure the assets that I’m using would loop before putting a lot of effort into them. Sourcing video assets for this project was slightly challenging, I ended up using two websites including pixels and iStock. I depended on adding textures and masks to further blend in the assets to the original image.
