About the Lodge

Intent of the Teaching Lodge

The Teaching Lodge is a multifaceted project intended to serve local Native and non-Native communities. It is a space for building community, land-based cultural practices, and Indigenous education. The lodge is a collaborative effort involving many different communities including those from from Northwestern, Evanston, Chicago and Wisconsin. It is facilitated by the Indigenous Graduate Student Collective (IGSC).

Our work officially began in January, 2020 when we gathered for the first time. We are now planning to construct the lodge in Spring, 2022. In the meantime, we plan to host virtual lodge events so please stay tuned for future engagement opportunities on this website.

Get Involved

The Teaching Lodge is meant to serve Native and non-Native communities from Northwestern, Evanston, Chicago and beyond. Our hope is for the lodge to become a communal space and we invite people from different communities to host gatherings and events there. We will develop a protocol for “reserving” the Teaching Lodge prior to its construction in Spring 2022. For now, if you have any ideas for lodge events (virtual, or in person once it is safe to do so), you can reach out to someone in IGSC or email indigeneity.colloquium@gmail.com. Please keep in mind that all events should be in alignment with the intent of the Teaching Lodge.
