Multimodal Interaction Lab

The Multimodal Interaction Lab is a physical lab space in the Northwestern Linguistics Department and administered by the LingMechLab, located on the third floor of Swift Hall on campus.

The goal of the space is to allow for the naturalistic recording of conversations and interactions for research, including sociolinguistic interviews and experimental setups. It consists of a sound-attenuated recording room surrounded by a lab office. The recording room is about 14′ by 11′, about the size of a small living room, and is equipped with capacity for high-quality audiovisual recording, depth imaging, and physiological monitoring of participants.

Construction on the lab is complete and equipment setup is underway. We expect the lab to come online for experiments in Fall 2023. Researchers at Northwestern interested in utilizing the lab facilities can contact Rob with any questions.
