IBiS/MBS Halloween Parties
Every year, the Lackner Lab hosts a Halloween Party in conjunction with the IBiS Graduate Program and the Department of Molecular Biosciences. We participate in a costume contest run by the IBiS student group ISO. One major goal in the lab is to find costumes that Keara (who is not Halloween’s biggest fan) will participate in with minimal to no actual participation.
2023: Bowling Lane
The lab was a mixture of the pins (Anika Marand, Emily Faul, Madison Spratt, and Gloria Alvarado), the bowling ball (Dakshya Karki), the scoreboard (Irving Francisco), and most importantly, the LANE (Mia Vigil holding up a picture of Keara overlaid on a bowling lane). This costume finally won us the contest and we all enjoyed a free unlimited sushi (or hibachi) lunch at Todoroki.
2022: Secret Service (and President Lane)
This year, the lab started the tradition of keeping the lab costume a secret until the day of the party. The lab put on their sternest face and black suits and surprised Keara at her office. After some initial confusion, the costume was well taken by The President. Madison Spratt, Gloria Alvarado, Chloe Jackson, Dakshya Karki, Anika Marand, Omar Santoyo, and Cece Stumpf showed up for duty that day. Somehow, we did not win the costume contest, and instead, the Wignall Lab won for being Margarita ingredients.
2021: Powerpuff Girls
The lab dressed up as the Powerpuff Girls since Keara would technically not even be in costume as The Professor. We are so clever! Omar Santoyo was Mojo Jojo, Madison Spratt was Bubbles, Gloria Alvarado was Buttercup, and Anika Marand was Blossom.
