Summer Lab Outings
Every summer, we spend a morning deep cleaning the lab. In the afternoon, there is a competitive lab event and dinner! Historically, teams have been Graduate students vs. Undergraduate students + Keara. The Undergraduates tend to come out victorious.
2024: Clue - A Walking Mystery
Someone turned the classic game of Clue into a real-life game with clues scattered throughout downtown Chicago. There was some intense trash-talking this year from the Graduate students – they had a big head about figuring out who the murderer was. Both teams started off exploring together, but after a drink break halfway through, the race was on. Needless to say, Keara and the Undergraduates restored order and solved the mystery first.
2023: Top Golf
Tradition was somewhat restored with the Graduate students facing off against Keara, Dakshya, and the Undergraduates. After a tiny grant submission emergency, all hands were on deck on the Undergraduate team. However, the team seemed to be permanently shaken by the stress, and the Graduate students came out on top! All receipts were captured for this rare victory.
2022: Bowling
We split the teams up differently this time around to avoid teams dominated by either Undergraduate or Graduate students. Something about the third letter of the last name alternating. Somehow, we managed to split up into two teams. Some of the Undergraduates were surprise expert bowlers. At one point, the lights went off, and so did the metaphorical gloves.
2021: Mini Golf and Axe Throwing
The sun was scorching, so no one thought to visually document our game at City Mini Golf, but the undergrads won. We split the teams more evenly at Bad Axe, and several hit the blue target like the axe-throwing experts they are. The Macrophage Monsters took the golden axe home. However, since no one was left bleeding, everyone was a winner.
