Xingyu Qin is a senior student at Northwestern University, majoring in Media Industries and Technology and minoring in Media and Politics, Film and Design, and Theater. As a passionate storyteller, she has practiced it in multiple mediums from plays, films, to games. She enjoys exploring how different forms shape the story.
Xingyu has been a game player for a long time, and she accidentally explores her interest in game design after taking related classes at Northwestern. Though it is not her major, she finds many things in common between games and film. They are both holistic arts through the magic of collaboration. The director’s perspective also helps her a lot in designing and writing games to consider the mood and the interrelations between mechanics, stories, and arts. What she loves most about the game is its immersion and interactivity, which makes players part of the story. Moreover, the room for environmental storytelling and multi-thread stories also remind her of immersive theater.
With relatively broad interests and experiences, Xingyu wants to explore storytelling that can be across mediums and cultures.
