About the Workshop

The Kellogg-Wharton OM Workshop is an online workshop meant to highlight work by doctoral students in Operations Management who are nearing the completion of their degrees.

The workshop will be held on July 13 and 14 and will feature 51 speakers from 23 universities. Sessions will take place at 1:00-2:30PM Eastern and 3:00-4:30PM Eastern and will consist of four or five tracks, each featuring three speakers. Students will have 25 minutes to present their work followed by five minutes to answer questions. Faculty moderators will chair each session and read selected questions from the session’s chat stream. Sessions will be run over Zoom.

Martin Lariviere

John L. and Helen Kellogg Professor of Operations
Chair of Operations Department

Professor Martin A. Lariviere joined the faculty at the Kellogg School of Management in 2000. Professor Lariviere’s research has focused on applying economic analysis to operations management problems. Much of his work has focused on supply chain contracting, examining how contract terms can improve supply chain performance. He has also studied how the behavior of self-interested customers impacts service operations.

His research has appeared in leading academic journals such as Manufacturing & Service Operations ManagementManagement ScienceOperations Research, and Marketing Science. He has also written articles for Harvard Business Review and Sloan Management Review. He has been a member of the editorial boards of Manufacturing & Service Operations ManagementManagement Science, and Operations Research. Professor Lariviere has also held a number of leadership positions in the Manufacturing and Service Operations Society of INFORMS. He is a Distinguished Fellow of the MSOM Society and a recipient of the Saul Gass Expository Writing Award.  

Professor Lariviere received his PhD from Stanford University. Prior to joining Kellogg, he was an Associate Professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.

Gad Allon

Jeffrey A. Keswin Professor

Gad Allon is the Jeffrey A. Keswin Professor and Professor of Operations, Information and Decisions, and the director of the Management and Technology Program at the university of Pennsylvania.

He received his PhD in Management Science from Columbia Business School in New York and holds a Bachelor and Master degree from the Israeli Institute of Technology.

His research interests include operations management in general, and service operations and operations strategy in particular. Professor Allon has been studying models of information sharing among firms and customers both in service and retail settings, as well as competition models in the service industry. His articles have appeared in leading journals, including Management Science, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management and Operations Research. Professor Allon won the 2011 “Wickham Skinner Early-Career Research Award” of the Production and Operations Management Society. He is the Operations Management Department Editor of Management Science and serves on the editorial board of several journals.

Gad is an award-winning educator, teaching courses on scaling operations and operations strategy and was recently named among the “World’s Top 40 B-School professors under the age of 40.” He has also been an innovative leader in many educational technology initiatives. He is the co-founder of ForClass, a platform that enables professors to drive higher student engagement and accountability in their classrooms. Professor Allon regularly consults firms both on service strategy and operations strategy.
