I joined Northwestern University in 1986. My primary research interest is audience behavior. At first, my work was confined to television audiences but now includes all the media in the digital marketplace. A secondary interest is audience measurement, which one needs to know to understand mass behavior. My CV and a few helpful links are in the following pages. In 2020, I became Professor Emeritus of Communication Studies. I live with my wife in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, just about an hour’s drive from the Evanston campus.
