GEARING UP.

My flight for Bogota leaves on the 20th, so I have a few more days in town to get my things together and allocate gifts for students I will be working with in the lab. My plane will be transferring at Panama City and, based on what I can find on the internet, Aeropuerto Internacional de Tocumen is a pretty easy place to change gates.

Apparently, I am also going to need a Yellow Fever vaccine. Anybody know a good place to get those? In the meantime, I’ll look for a travel clinic in Chicago. The good news is that I am up to date on all of the other recommended vaccines, and I don’t have to worry about those. Sunscreen and bug repellent are still at the top of my packing list, however.

Tomorrow I’m going to try to finish all of the vital experiments in the Ottino lab before I leave for the summer so that I can analyze the data and write while I’m abroad.

GREETINGS.

Hi Everyone,

I’m John Hruska, a sophomore at Northwestern University, and I am traveling to Bogotá, Colombia on June 20th for a summer internship! The work I will be doing is material characterization research at Universidad de los Andes and I’m excited to collaborate in a laboratory environment to establish materials analysis protocol as I explore the city of Bogotá and try a bunch of different foods.

I’ll keep this page updated throughout the process with images and stories. My journey starts June 20th when I land in Colombia and ends August 18th when I make it back to Chicago.

See you soon,

John
