About

Hi, I’m Jenny (she/her)! I am a sixth year Ph.D. student in mathematics at Northwestern University. My advisor is Professor Bryna Kra. I am grateful for the support of the National Science Foundation through a Graduate Research Fellowship awarded in 2019. I received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2019 from the University of Guanajuato/CIMAT, in Mexico. Here is a copy of my CV (updated October 2024).

Axioms

I strongly believe Federico Ardila-Mantilla’s axioms:
Axiom 1: Mathematical talent is distributed equally among different groups, irrespective of geographic, demographic, and economic boundaries.
Axiom 2: Everyone can have joyful, meaningful, and empowering mathematical experiences.
Axiom 3: Mathematics is a powerful, malleable tool that can be shaped and used differently by various communities to serve their needs.
Axiom 4: Every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. (I would like to add to axiom 4 that every student is different and we should strive to make mathematics accessible to all.)

For Fun

Favorite SMBC comic (link): Whenever you get frustrated with math, just remember that it took humanity centuries to understand the math you are studying. Be kind to yourself! I also try to keep this in mind when teaching.

Birds: If you’ve met me in person, you know I can’t stop talking about birds. I love birdwatching! You can find some of my bird pics here.

Maybe it’s not my job to invent something new. Maybe instead it’s my job to listen to what the universe is showing me and to keep myself open to what the universe offers. So that when it’s my turn, I can hold something to the light, just for a moment.
