Fact sheet: Analysis of Suicide Deaths in Rural Counties, 2022

This data provides an overview of suicide deaths in Illinois rural counties. The majority, 81.6% (288) were males. The largest age group was those 65 and older, followed by 25-34 and 35-44. Non-Hispanic White accounted for 96.2% (333) of these deaths. Firearms were the most common weapon type, used in 51.8% of deaths. High school graduates represent the largest educational group.

This data provides an overview of homicide death in Illinois rural counties. Nearly three quarters 74.1% (40) of victims were males. Nearly a third, 29.6% (16) were between 25 and 34 years of age. Non-Hispanic White individuals make up 55.1% (27) of the victims, while Non-Hispanic Black victims account for 42.9% (21) . Firearms are the most common weapon type, used in 63% (34) of these deaths. Laborers represent the largest occupation group 27.8% (15).

Analysis of Older Adult Suicide Deaths in Illinois, 2020-2021

During 2020 and 2021, the Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS) recorded a total of 509 suicide deaths among residents aged 65 and older (238 in 2020 and 271 in 2021). These suicides made up 18.9% of all suicide deaths in Illinois during 2020-2021.
 
 

Fact Sheet: Child and Young Adult Suicide: Focus Incidents with an Intimate Partner Problem

From 2015 to 2021, IVDRS recorded 1,171 youth suicide deaths among individuals aged 10 to 24 years old. Of these deaths, 18.1% (n=212) were associated with an intimate partner problem that contributed to the suicide.

Data Brief: Analysis of Homicide-Suicide Incidents in Illinois, 2015-2020

From 2015-2020 there have been 96 homicide-suicide incidents recorded from the Illinois Violent Death Reporting System, resulting in 116 homicide victims and 96 suicide victims/suspects. A homicide-suicide incident is defined by one or more homicides followed by suicide of the homicide suspect within 24 hours of the homicide.

Fact Sheet: Illinois Veteran Suicide Deaths

In a 2021 data analysis by Illinois Violent Death Reporting System is reporting 172 veteran suicide deaths. Thirty-five of those deaths reported a mental health problem and 50 reported a physical health problem. Other mental health circumstances that was reported were depressed mood (26), mental health treatment (14) and suicide thought history (24). The most impacted were non-Hispanic White males over the of age of 65-years-old.

In 2020, Illinois had 1,353 homicides: a 27.6% increase from 2019. The Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS) collected data on a total of 1,265 homicide deaths from 55 participating counties representing 93.4% of all homicide deaths in Illinois.
