In the lab we believe that the best science is cultured by creativity and working hard in welcoming and diverse environment. Our top priority is to train the next generation of scientists while making meaningful scientific discoveries.

Mentoring philosophy

I believe that a good mentor is able to identify the needs of each individual, meet the trainees where they are and guide them towards their future goals and career development.

I value scientific reasoning and critical thinking. It is crucial to understand the logic of experimental design: what question we are asking, how the experiment is going to contribute to its answer, selecting the appropriate controls within an experiment, interpreting the results and its limitations and thinking about the best next experiment to do.

Not only performing experiments, but also being able to communicate research discoveries both in writing and in oral presentations are essential skills to develop as a scientist. These will be key skills in the training of scientists in the lab.

Learning is a continuous process that benefits from a respectful and diverse atmosphere. Learning not only originates from books and scientific articles, but also from and together with other researchers. I will strive to create a welcoming atmosphere not only within the lab, but also in the Department and community.

Lastly, mentoring is a two way street, I am not perfect and I believe in open lines of communication to grow together. As a mentor, I will support you in the different stages of the development of your career.
