IPOL 305: Transitional justice

This course gave me a unique opportunity to learn about the post-conflict political, economic and social landscape of states. It focused on assessing the after-effect of human rights violations and the different mechanisms states take to rebuild their societies. There are various transitional justice mechanisms such as truth commissions, reparations, amnesty, and memorialization to name a few. Understanding the mechanisms helps in the process of crafting policy proposals that are the right fit for a particular case study. The debates and class discussions incorporated were very instrumental in understanding different transitional justice practices. This is important because understanding the past helps make better policies and solutions in the present and future.
