Water Through the Lenses of Kendall, Raya, and Mo

Below are this weeks posts from Co-Lab group 4 (Kendall, Mo, and Raya).  The students focused on the importance of water throughout their travels, choosing photos that showcase the versatility of water in the human experience.

Kendall wrote, “one of the key elements of water is its astounding ability to reflect the objects surrounding it. When traveling to London for the first time, I was enchanted by this scene of the London Eye reflected on the Thames River, taken on a city bridge at night. The reflections of the lights of the city buildings and Ferris Wheel on the water add to their large presence, making the city feel vast. Although many rivers flow through important cities, the Thames has always been a picturesque and vital resource for the city of London.”

Raya approached the topic with a specific focus in mind: “I wanted to explore how it interacts with individuals, particularly locals in touristy areas of Europe. I took this image in Nice, France on a busy, touristy beach during sunset. Pictured is a father and his two children setting up to fish in the Mediterranean. Despite living in such a tourist heavy city, this family still finds time and space to engage in simple, yet heartwarming tradition.”

After a visit to Munich, Mo reflected on the Eisbachwelle, one of the most famous river waves in the world saying, “it provides the possibility of surf to an extremely landlocked city, and attracts surfers from near and far. The banks of the River and the bridge create a sort of arena where surfers can showcase their skills to the crowds of people watching their every maneuver. This phenomenon exemplifies the human intrigue with, and reliance on, water not only for survival but for leisure as well.”
