Below are this weeks posts from Co-Lab group 4 (Kendall, Mo, and Raya). Each image touches on impactful experiences these students have experienced within the past two weeks abroad from striking art in museums to touching moments with their homestay families.
In Copenhagen, on the other hand, Kendall touches on her reaction to an art installation, “this is the image of an art installation called “Weaving the Light” by artist Kimsooja from South Korea. It is located in the Fredericksburg cisterns, a water reservoir that was used for hundreds of years to supply clean water during a cholera outbreak in Copenhagen. The cisterns are huge—4000 sq meters—and very dark. Today, they are used to showcase one art installation annually—this one blurs space and time by using artificial light and diffraction gratings to create a radiant, ephemeral work. The thin layer of water on the ground reflect the colorful patterns. It was simply phenomenal to experience this art in my own neighborhood in Copenhagen!”
Similar to Kendall, Raya writes about her classroom time spent in the Bargello sculpture museum, “A major feature of my program’s art history classes is how immersed we are Florence’s rich history of art. Half of my classes are spent in museums analyzing paintings and sculptures in real time. Here is a picture taken in the Bargello Sculpture Museum.”
