The Community of Luma del Tigre, Ecuador
Sumak Allpa, Ecuador
The first image was taken in the old town of Stockholm in Sweden. This town has been preserved from Medieval times, and the photo is of a tunnel that is thousands of years old. The city is rich in history and a view into the past. The second and third photos were taken in Ecuador’s Amazon and are representative of the rich and varied traditions of the native tribes there. The first photo was from a school created to teach native traditions and educate students about conservation. The students had been learning a traditional dance and performed it for us when we arrived. The third photo was taken inside a building that was built in the traditional native style. The island it was on functions as a reserve for monkeys that were in the pet trade with the goal of rehabilitation and release into the wild. The theme of the photos this week was preservation. Whether of history, tradition, or environment, these preservations have been extremely beneficial for the communities that live there.
