One of my classes took a trip to Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark. We learned primarily about sustainability initiatives. and did a food walking tour of the city where we tried different sustainably sourced foods. The first picture is my favorite dish that we had on the walking tour. While on the tour, we passed the street pictured. We were told that this street was several centuries older than the United States, and it was interesting to put into perspective the timescale of Denmark in relation to the US. Walking down that street, it made me realize how preserved a lot of the original elements of Aarhus were in comparison with modern American cities. The last picture is from an art exhibit at ARoS Modern Art Museum about wetlands preservation. In this exhibition, the artist used video game-like technology to recreate wetlands that had been destroyed due to climate change. We sat for a while watching this moving recreation and listening to sounds taken from the original wetlands. We learned through this art about sustainability and climate change, the main concern from residents that I felt was shared throughout the entirety of my time in Aarhus.
