These images were taken in Copenhagen (Denmark), Fiji, and Lagos (Portugal). Though Denmark, Fiji, and Portugal are great distances away from each other, they are each recognized for their gorgeous views of bodies of water. We specifically selected these images because of the role that water plays in these communities. 

Water is a defining aspect of these different places as it was an essential mode of transportation that helped these places economically and socially flourish. In addition, the bodies of water are so highly praised for their beauty and peacefulness by both local residents and foreigners that they have become a cultural marker for these countries. 

However, regardless of these scenic views, these three countries have major water-related concerns. Due to climate change, Denmark suffers from extreme rainfall. Fiji has freshwater scarcity issues and Portugal is in a water crisis due to extreme drought. 

In these countries, though water is a symbol of tranquility, it is also a reason for anxiety.
