About
Gerrit was born and raised in the great state of Minnesota. He continued his education at home, attending the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. As an undergraduate at Minnesota, Gerrit conducted research in Professor Renee Frontiera’s group investigating plasmon-molecular energy transfer using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). In May 2022, Gerrit graduated from the University of Minnesota, with degrees in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. After moving to Northwestern in the fall of 2022, he continued working on his love of plasmonics in Professor Dayne Swearer’s group, applying SERS to catalytic relevant systems. In June of 2023, Gerrit officially joined the Gaynor group, using multidimensional electronic-vibrational spectroscopy to study vibronic coupling in molecular systems.
