Families Filming Infants Learning Movement (FILM) Study

Your baby can participate in this study if they are less than 10 weeks after their due date and meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Infant born less than 37 weeks gestational age
• Infant born full-term with a birthweight greater than 5.5 lbs (2500g)
• Infant born in a multiple gestation pregnancy (twin, triplet)
• Infant with a history of bronchopulmonary dysplasia 
• Infant who required hypothermic cooling treatment
• Infants with trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), congenital heart defects, or infants requiring surgery to correct for congenital malformations
• Infants diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) prenatally, via newborn screening or prior to 10 weeks adjusted age

There is no minimum age to participate in the Families FILM study. 

Families will download the free Baby Moves mobile application on their smartphone or smart device and record their infant’s movement’s six times over the course of ten weeks. Families may also answer questions about their child’s development and how they liked using the smartphone app. 

Each of the six videos will be three minutes long and will be uploaded into a secure database that only members of the research team will access. 

One video will be taken every every two weeks starting at 10 weeks adjusted age through 20 weeks adjusted age. 

You should receive a notification to record your baby at 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, and 20 weeks adjusted age. 

The Families FILM study can provide you with more information about your baby’s development and serve as a screening tool.

Specifically, monitoring of your infant’s movements may help us to determine if your child may benefit from a referral to Early Intervention services at an earlier timepoint than they may otherwise be referred.
