Which people are at the greatest risk for severe complications of COVID-19?

A major problem in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 is distinguish those who will progress to requiring mechanical ventilation and severe infections from those that will have mild infections. Dr. Chad Achenbach of the Division of Infectious Disease is creating a extensive database of COVID-19 patients from throughout the Chicago region to track their characteristics, treatments, laboratory values, and clinical outcomes.  This information will be systematically examined to identify risk factors for severe complications of COVID-19 and treatments that show promise.  In addition, this database will be an invaluable resource for other researchers investigating COVID-19.
